A large number of devotees thronged the Gundicha temple at Lawsons Bay Colony to participate in Bahuda Yatra, marking the return of Lord Jagannath and his siblings to the main temple located at Daspalla Hills here on Sunday. Garlands of purple flowers and tulasi leaves adorned the idols of Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra and the tastefully-decorated chariot rolled ahead amidst the rhythmic beats of the conch, drums and cymbals played by the Sambalpur-based Samrat folk artistes’ troupe in the festival hosted by by Utkal Sanskrutika Samaj. The chhera pahanra (sweeping of the floor to make way for the chariot) was carried out by Pramod Bhanja Deo of erstwhile Daspalla royal family. Close to 3,000 people, including president of the samaj J.K. Nayak, its general secretary P.K. Biswal and joint secretary C.R. Panda, Chief Commissioner of Income Tax C.R. Pati and former Customs Commissioner S.C. Choudhury took part in the Rath Yatra.
