HRD Mnister Ganta Srinivasa Rao on Sunday said that around 6,000 alumni had registered themselves for the upcoming Andhra University Alumni Meet Waves-2018, scheduled to be organised on December 10.

The meet is being coincided with the birth anniversary of its founding Vice-Chancellor Prof. C.R. Reddy. Industrialist Ratan Tata’s assurance to be part of the event has given a huge boost to the event, he said.

The Minister pointed out that the turnout was around 2,000 to 2,500 for the Alumni meet till last year. “But, this year it has seen a steep increase. There is about a week to go for the event and the count is expected to rise further, Mr. Srinivasa Rao told the media here.

He further said that since it was not possible to adjust all alumni in the convention centre, LED screens would be set up outside the venue with covered seating arrangement. A pylon will be set up at AU Convention Centre to mark Mr. Ratan Tatas visit to the varsity. After the pylon unveiling, a half-an-hour interaction is being arranged between Mr. Ratan Tata and faculty of AU. The faculty will have a chance to interact and ask questions to the industrialist, Mr. Srinivasa Rao said.

According to the HRD Minister, around ₹50 lakh is being spent for the meet.

He also informed the media that a database of about 1.06 lakh alumni had been prepared.

Programmes lined up

Events will begin from December 4. All the departments will conducting competitions like essay writing, elocution, sports and cultural programmes.

On December 9, a friendly Kabaddi match will be organised between teachers and the alumni.
