1 dead in an LPG cylinder explosion at Sriharipuram, Visakhapatnam

A massive boom was heard in the early
hours of Thursday at Sriharipuram, Visakhapatnam from a Liquified
Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinder explosion in one of the buildings. This
sent the residents of the nearby buildings into a panic. The building
received extensive structural damage, with some of the walls collapsing
while the apartment where the explosion occurred perished. Two people were injured in the incident. The
injured have been identified as 25-year-old Naveen Burra and
50-year-old A Narayanamma, residents of Indira Colony in Sriharipuram.
Both were shifted to King George Hospital (KGH) in Visakhapatnam after
the LPG cylinder explosion. While Narayanamma received 50 percent burns
due to the explosion, Naveen incurred some burns, along with a back
injury, from the incident. Unfortunately, Narayanamma didn’t make it and
passed away in the afternoon at around 3 PM. Meanwhile, Naveen is still
undergoing treatment at KGH. a LPG cylinder According
to Malkapuram Police, the building that the injured were residing in is
an old one. On Thursday morning, Narayanamma went to the kitchen of her
house to light the stove and make some tea. She was unaware that one of
the two LPG cylinders in her house was leaking. Malkapuram Police have registered a case into the gas cylinder explosion and an investigation is underway. A similar LPG cylinder blast
took place back in 2019 in Visakhapatnam when two members of a family
living in Sagar Nagar had died and one more had been injured. A fire had
erupted from the blast which had to be extinguished by the fire
brigade. |
