‘Peg marking should be done by carrying out a survey’

A report on the government and private land required for Visakhapatnam Metro Rail project construction should be submitted in 15 days, District Collector K. Bhaskar instructed officials concerned.

Peg marking by identifying the land required should be done by carrying out a survey along the 42-km corridors planned from Gajuwaka to Kommadi, Gurudwara to Old Post Office and Tatichetlapalem to China Waltair, he said at a meeting with officials concerned and those of Amaravati Metro Rail Corporation (AMRC) here on Tuesday. The progress would be reviewed every fortnight with officials of the Revenue, Railways, National Highways, R&B, Sports and Tourism, Mr. Bhaskar said.

Request for Proposal(RFP) was issued to five companies for the Vizag Metro project being taken up in a unique public-private-partnership.

According to N.P. Ramakrishna Reddy, Managing Director of Amaravti Metro Rail Corporation, overseeing the Vizag Metro, about 95 acres of land is required for the metro corridors along which 38 stations will come up. Hanumathavaka is one of the areas where a metro depot is likely to come up and government land is available.

Besides, AMRC has to be given 250 acres of land parcels, in the vicinity of the corridors, for commercial development.

For the execution of the ₹8,300 crore project, AMRC will raise ₹4,200 crore from external commercial borrowings and the successful bidder will have to bring in the remaining investment.

Commercial development

Commercial development of the land will be taken up by AMRC to repay the debt and for debt servicing.

Mr. Reddy, Metro Rail General Manager U.J.M. Rao, Deputy CGM Ranga Rao and others officials participated.
