Skin Safar Rath to raise awareness on ailments

A Skin Safar Rath reached RK Beach here on Monday, with dermatologists from King George Hospital (KGH), Gitam Medical College and NRI Medical College participating in the programme to raise awareness on skin diseases like psoriasis, vitiligo and leprosy.

Dermatologists said fungal infections were rampant in the community due to the usage of topical steroids. They advised patients against self-medication or going to quacks and said one must always consult qualified doctors.

The Indian Association of Dermatologists was organising the awareness drive all over India for the last two months as quackery was rampant in the community, organisers said.

The Skin Safar Rath, which started in Delhi on December 21 last year, would cover 18 States. So far, the campaign has covered Delhi, Haryana, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana States, organisers said. Dr. P. Guruprasad, Dr. K. Venkatachalam, Dr. Sriharsha, Dr. Madhu Babu, and Dr. Farzana participated in the event.
