It was a special moment to cherish for 50 doctors, all alumni of Andhra Medical College (AMC), who came all the way to the city from different States and abroad to take part in a get-together, here .There was bonhomie among the 1959 batch MBBS students of AMC as they recalled their days spent together some 60 years ago, discussed their varied interests and exchanged pleasantries. Some of them came along with their family members. The participants included 14 doctors from the U.S.A. and five doctors from the U.K.
Second home
In 1999, we got the idea of hosting the first reunion and have been meeting once in every five years, ever since. This being the diamond jubilee year of our batch, its more special to us. Vizag is our second home as we had all studied here, Dr. Vyakaranam Atchuta Rama Rao, who had settled in the U.K. some 45 years ago, and is organising the meet with the cooperation of Dr. K. Akkala Naidu, Dr. D. Adams and Dr. PMM Krishna from Visakhapatnam, told The Hindu.
Only 78 of the 125 original classmates are alive now, he said, fondly remembering those who had departed.
Prof. S. Sreenivasulu Reddy (91), a distinguished Professor of Surgery, who taught the 1959 batch was invited as the chief guest for the reunion. Dr. Reddy was all smiles as his former students (all senior doctors) touched his feet, seeking blessings.
