Following a decisive victory in Telangana, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi has renewed its call for forming a non- BJP and non- Congress federal front .
At a press conference on Wednesday, TRS MP and Telangana CM K. Chandrasekhar Rao s daughter K. Kavitha speaking on the speculation about a mahagatbandhan of opposition parties led by Congress said: A neutral platform should be established which is free of the BJP and the Congress.
She also asserted that there was no consensus among the opposition parties on who will lead them in 2019 Lok Sabha polls. She pointed out that Mamata Banerjee and Akhilesh Yadav have opposed DMK president M. K. Stalin s proposal to nominate Congress president Rahul Gandhi as PM candidate of an united opposition.
The SP and BSP have skipped the all-opposition party meet on December 10. The two UP parties also did not attend swearing-in ceremonies of the Congress Chief Ministers in Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.
People s issues
This is not about one person becoming a prime minister. This is also not about one party rising to power. This is about truly addressing the issues of the people of this nation. We have done it at Telangana. We made sure that their issues are being addressed on day-to-day basis, she said.
Ms. Kavitha also slammed the Congress and maintained that “Congress gained power in Madhya Pradesh by default where BJP gave them a very tough fight. It was not a clear victory, she said.
She also vehemently denied the charge that TRS was functioning as B team of the BJP. We are working for a coalition which is free of both Congress and BJP and we are not B team of anything but B team of the Indian people, she added.
Prominent player
Our Special Correspondent from Hyderabad adds: The party would win 16 out of the total 17 Lok Sabha seats in Telangana in the next elections and was set to emerge as a prominent player at the national-level, the TRS MP said in New Delhi.
She justified TRS president and Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao describing Mr. Rahul Gandhi as bufoon claiming that there was nothing wrong in the charge against the AICC president who set aside the decorum with his behaviour on the floor of Parliament.
The recent victories of the main Opposition in the three States which went to polls too were not significant as the Congress managed to scrape through with thin majorities. The recent elections were in fact pointer to the major role that the regional parties could play at the national-level.
Lame excuses
On the State politics, she dismissed the Congress claims that presence of TDP president and AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu played key role in deciding the outcome of the polls. The party initially tried to gain with its charge on tampering of EVMs, but the focus was now on other reasons as it failed. People did not trust the promises made by the Congress and the party is citing lame excuses for the drubbing it received in the elections, she said.
