All the employees of Andhra University, including the teaching staff, will go on an indefinite strike from December 7 if their demands were not met by that time. A decision in this regard was taken at a meeting organised by AU JAC here on Thursday. The contract staff of the university have already been on a relay fast since Wednesday.
According to AU JAC president G. Ravi Kumar, about 500 temporary non-teaching staff members have been working under the 28-day scheme for the past 20 years.
We demand that they be brought under the time-scale scheme. Similarly, we also demand that the non-teaching staff, who are under the time-scale scheme, be regularised with one basic increment, Mr. Ravi Kumar said.
The JAC demanded that the contract employees numbering about 300, who work for a consolidated pay of ₹6,000 per month, be given minimum wages of ₹12,600 per month.
