A large number of devotees thronged temples in the city on the occasion of Guru Poornima on Friday. Special rituals, including abhishekam with aromatic substances, were performed.
In view of the lunar eclipse, many devotees lined up at the temples, particularly Sai Baba temples, since early morning. All the temples in the city remained closed after 12 noon due to eclipse.
To facilitate darshan for the devout who took part in the 32-km long Giri Pradakshina, the temple doors of Simhachalam temple remained open till 1 p.m. on Friday. On Saturday, darshan will resume at 8:30 a.m.
Srichakra Navavarnarchana Lakshmi Homam was performed at Sri Kanaka Mahalakshmi temple on the occasion.
Special puja was performed at Lakshmi Ganapathi, Sai Baba and Dathatreya temple near Lakshmi Park.
Guru Poornima puja at Isukakonda Rama Sameta Satyanarayana Swamy temple began from Thursday midnight.
At Sri Shiridi Sai Baba temple, Burujupeta Guru Pournami Mahotsavalu started from Wednesday.
The 25th Guru Poornima was celebrated with gaiety at East Point Colony Sai Baba temple.
