In a tragic road accident man and son died on the spot, while three others, including a two-year-old, was seriously injured, here on Saturday.

The deceased were identified as Satyanarayana Pathivada (59), Director of Gayatri College, Gotlam Campus in Vizianagaram and principal of government junior college, Vizianagaram and his son Pathivada Sandeep (32), software engineer. While Mr. Satyanarayana’s wife P. Krishnaveni, their daughter-in-law P. Anusha and two-year-old grandson, suffered grievous injuries. The condition of Krishnaveni is said to be critical.

The incident took place when the car in which they were travelling rammed a stationary truck laden with LPG cylinders on NH-16 near Vellanki under Anandapuram police station limits.

Inspector of PM Palem (Traffic) S Himabindu said accident occurred around 2.15 pm on Saturday when the family was going to Vizianagaram from the city. The police said the car hit the truck that was parked on the side of the road near a hotel. Satyanarayana, who was in driver’s seat, lost control over the vehicle while he was trying to overtake a vehicle and rammed into the truck. The impact of the accident was so severe that the front part of the car was completely damaged Himabindu added.

The Anandapuram police have taken the driver of the truck into custody and have filed a case against him. The police have shifted the bodies to KGH for post-mortem.
